Mannatech Announces the Official Launch of the M5M China Run

Ultra-endurance athlete Jason Lester begins 2,500-mile run to raise malnutrition awareness

COPPELL, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 2014-- Mannatech®, Incorporated (NASDAQ: MTEX), the pioneer of nutritional glycobiology, and leading innovator of naturally-sourced supplements based on Real Food Technology® solutions, announced today that the M5M℠ China Run officially launched at 8:00 a.m. local time on August 8th, 2014. Ultra-endurance athlete Jason Lester will be attempting to complete a solo run of over 2,500 miles across the Great Wall of China in 100 days or less to raise awareness for the mission to fight global malnutrition.

Mannatech has partnered with Lester as the title sponsor of the M5M China Run as a part of their ongoing Mission 5 Million℠, or M5M, movement. The goal of M5M is to connect five million children in need of proper nutrition with five million consumers of Mannatech products. As a social entrepreneurial company, Mannatech donates servings of its proprietary PhytoBlend™ powder to at-risk children all over the world every time a consumer purchases product for themselves on automatic order. According to recent reports by the World Health Organization, approximately five million children under the age of 5 die every year due to causes linked to malnutrition. As the title sponsor, Mannatech is hoping to bring this catastrophic reality to the forefront and inspire the world to take action.

Lester’s goal is to finish the run within 100 days, requiring an average daily trek over rugged terrain equivalent to almost a full marathon per day. If his mission is realized, Lester will be the first solo athlete to run this distance of the Great Wall. Lester has previously run 3,500 miles from San Francisco to New York in 2013 to raise awareness and support for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and in 2011 he biked and ran 5,000 miles across the United States for Nike's "Journey for a Better World" campaign. Lester is an endorser of Mannatech and credits glyconutrient technology and Mannatech’s Ambrotose® product as being his “secret weapon” in competitions and training.

“We’re extremely excited to be a part of this incredible event,” said Mannatech President Al Bala. “The issue of childhood malnutrition is a global epidemic with staggering implications and we believe that an event of this epic proportion will truly demonstrate the kind of incredible dedication, perseverance and effort that it will take to change these overwhelming statistics. Partnering with an athlete of Jason Lester’s caliber speaks to the level of excellence and integrity that Mannatech as a company strives for and we believe that this event will truly go into the history books as a turning point in the fight against childhood malnutrition.”
