Study Finds Mannatech's Ambrotose AO Product Increases Resting Blood Antioxidant Capacity

In this 21-day independent human study, Dr. Richard J. Bloomer and scientists from the University of Memphis showed Ambrotose AO capsules (four capsules/day for three weeks) significantly increased two measures of antioxidant capacity -- Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) and Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity (TEAC) -- in the blood of 25 healthy men and women at rest.* Compared to placebo, Ambrotose AO capsules also caused a greater increase in blood ORAC at 30 minutes post-exercise.* 1
The results further validate the study previously published in May by Dr. Stephen P. Myers conducted in Australia for five weeks on 21 healthy adults that showed four capsules per day of Ambrotose AO dietary supplement was safe and raised serum Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity ORAC.* 2

- For the best antioxidant protection under all conditions, you should have both fat-soluble and water-soluble antioxidant compounds in proper amounts. Your body has both aqueous (water-based) and lipid (fat-based) components and they both need protection from oxidative stress.
- Fresh fruits and vegetables are usually good sources of natural antioxidants, but if you do not eat at least five to nine servings a day, you may want to include a high quality antioxidant dietary supplement daily.
- Don't be fooled by high "ORAC" values touted on some product labels or marketing materials. These values are often calculated from laboratory experiments and do not necessarily translate to health value since some antioxidants are not absorbed into the body.
- Overdoing anything is generally not a good idea, antioxidants included. Taking too much of an antioxidant can actually cause it to become a pro-oxidant and cause oxidative stress.
